Czech Republic: Ex-Justice Minister pens racy novel
Under police scrutiny for having allegedly accepted bribes for letting off armed robbers and awarding her former deputies at the Czech Ministry of Justice with exceptionally large bonuses, ex-minister Daniela Kovářová has nontheless found time to write another fictional novel.
“An Eye for an Eye” is a compilation of behind-the-scenes stories from the halls of justice but, unlike in her previous novel, “Flirting with Politics,” the book focuses not on back-room political deals but on how the law affects the daily lives of contemporary Czechs, drawing on some 3,000 cases she has worked on. Given the title, the base human desire for revenge may well feature strongly.
“My new book is really quite different from the previous one. I focused on stories of the judicial and legal environment over the past 20 years. Unfortunately, when working with clients of course you encounter the problematic side of everyday life, with cheating, deception, fraud and betrayal,” Kovářová told the tabloid Blesk. “I wanted the stories to show readers what discussing court cases is like in practice, how the justice system really works.”
As in her first book, though, the novel also has a healthy dose of sex, which the ex-justice minister, who turns 47 next month, says is an integral part of life. “The sex stories are in addition to the major plots,” she said, adding that “sex is a part of my life that I cannot imagine being without.” (via Czech Position)
