Olympian Matthew Pinsent helps carry the first of 16,000 beds to be installed in the Athletes’ Village at the Olympic Park. The Olympic Village was handed over for its fit-out of furnishings which will turn it into the home of the athletes who will compete at the London 2012 Games. The handover marks the six-month countdown to the start of the Games. The site will house up to 16,000 athletes and team officials during the Olympic Games and 6,200 athletes and team officials, plus 1,000 referees and umpires during the Paralympic Games, from 200 countries around the world. Sir Anthony’s design depicts the sports equipment used for Weightlifting, Boxing, Football and Athletics framed by a laurel wreath and the official London 2012 logo to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Only 60 gold Kilo coins, each priced at £100,000 and containing one kilo of fine gold, will be produced. (via Telegraph)
