An unidentified former student arrives at the Sint Lambertus school. A bus carrying Belgian tourists crashed into the wall of a tunnel in Sierre in the Valais region of Switzerland, killing 28 people, 22 of them children, police said on Wednesday. Family members of the crash victims and the Belgian prime minister, Elio Di Rupo, arrive in the town of Sion, near the crash site in the Swiss Alps, while mourners in Belgium lay flowers outside a school attended by many of the children, and the country’s archbishop says mass to mourners in the town of Leuven. Twenty-eight Dutch and Belgian citizens, including 22 children, died in the accident on Tuesday. (via The Guardian)

The relatives of people still missing one month after the Costa Concordia disaster mourn their loved ones on Monday on a small boat 45 metres from the wreck of the ship, and in a local church. Ship captain Francesco Schettino remains under house arrest accused of manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning ship prior to evacuation (via guardian.co.uk)

Munich, Germany
A herd of elephants say goodbye to Lola the dead elephant calf at Hellabrunn Zoo. A baby elephant who tragically died at a German zoo was brought back to her herd so they could say goodbye. Lola, a three month old elephant, died on 21 January during a CT scan ahead of an operation to fix a serious heart defect. Lola’s body was brought back to the herd so that her mother, Panang (22), could say farewell. Afterwards the herd gently nuzzled the lifeless body with their trunks and took their leave of her.
